Pixie for The Next Ten

The  Pixie Project was selected by The Huffington Post as one of the nonprofits that will help shape the next decade.

As part of their ten year anniversary, the Huffington Post chose the causes and organizations they think will make the biggest difference in the next ten years–and Pixie made the list!

The Pixie Project is raising the bar on animal rescue! Located in Portland, Oregon, Pixie’s goal is to transform animal adoption and rescue into a fun, family-friendly and positive experience by taking a hands-on, personal approach to each and every adoption. Pixie is committed to the art of match-making between pet and person!

In addition to providing amazing adoption services, The Pixie Project runs a low-cost veterinary clinic. The Scott Wainner Pixie Care Clinic offers low income and homeless pet owners access to vital veterinary care.

Keeping Pets and People Together!

Keeping Pets and People Together!

Over  the last year, the Pixie Project has increased the number of surgeries performed by more than 5 times. A skilled team of high-volume veterinarians and vet techs can now perform twenty surgeries during our once-a-week surgery day. These surgeries are a combination of spay/neuter and emergency services, including dental extractions, amputations, mass removals, and other life-saving surgeries.

Our goal is not only to prevent overpopulation through easy access to spay/neuter surgeries, but to keep beloved pets in their existing homes. When pet owners fall on hard times (including, in many cases, seniors living on social security) they may not be able to afford a necessary surgery at a traditional vet, forcing them to surrender their beloved companion to already over-full shelters or consider euthanasia. Many of these animals are seniors themselves who have very limited adoption opportunities. Pixie is able to help keep these owners and pets together by performing affordable surgeries and assisting with medications.

Wyatt-2

When I think of “Wyatt” I think of a charming outdoorsy type that writes poems and gets along with everyone.   That actually sums me up perfectly! And while my sonnets could use some work I could definitely join any family for all your winter outings.  As long as I have my very dignified sweater on I am not afraid to get a little wet!  I am a 6 month old Doberman mix so not much slows me down.  I do well with other dogs, and since I’m big and bouncy I’ll be best with older kids.  Puppy classes are mandatory with my adoption, but I promise to work hard and be an A+ student.  Can you start your new year with me? Fill out the adoption application so we can schedule a meet and greet!  I am fixed, vaccinated and micro-chipped.  My adoption fee is $250.

Chu Chu 2

Yoo hoo!  It’s Chu Chu! I’m a 2 year  old Pekingese/Diva extraordinaire! I may be a pretty little lady, weighing in at just 12 lbs, but don’t let that fool you! I’ve got plenty of sass!  In fact, I’m looking for an extra special, adult-only home that will be patient with my spicy streak.  I am in need of further socialization and training, particularly when it comes to my toys since I am a  bad sharer! I can also be a bit nippy, and while Pixie Project doesn’t condone the behavior they feel confident that I have good inhibition and won’t hurt anybody.  I do well with other animals and have doggy friends, but since I do have so many training needs I may be best living as an only dog! Are you a Pekingese person with a big heart? Come check me out! Fill out the adoption application so we can schedule a meet and greet. I am fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and have had a dental recently.  My adoption fee is $250.

Brody 1

Yo homies!  Brody here, but you can just call me bro!  As a 4 month old Terrier/Dachshund you know I’m the life of the party!   And hopefully I’ll be invited to all of yours since I could still use plenty of socialization at my young age.  Only thing is – I don’t know any party tricks yet!  Maybe we can go to puppy classes and learn some together? In the meantime, I’ll charm the pants off of everyone I meet. I’m great with people of all ages, dogs, and kitties (although I will need some training with them at the beginning).  Since I’m still learning all of my life skills I need a home comfortable with potty training, crate training, and general puppy antics.  So what do you say? Want to party with me? Fill out the adoption application so we can schedule a meet and greet.  I am fixed, vaccinated and microchipped. My adoption fee is $300.

Bonnie 1

Good day all! Your Bonnie lass here ready to come home and bring you some comfort for the rainy season. I’m a good cuddler on blustery days, will make you smile on the dreary ones, and keep you company always. I’m an 8 year old Lab mix who  enjoys playtime in the yards and fire lit naps. Due to an old knee injury I take doggie Advil every day, but am otherwise fit as a fiddle!    I get along with everyone and would do well with any family.  I’m about 72 lbs and have a history living with kitties and another dog. Do I sound like the girl for you?  Fill out the adoption application so we can schedule a meet and greet.  I am fixed, vaccinated and microchipped.  My adoption fee is $250.

Cutie Pie

Hi friends!  That beautiful, leggy girl on the left is me! My name is Cutie Pie, and boy do I live up to  it!  At least the “cutie” part, I’m not sure I make such a good pie…  I am a 3 1/2, 7 lb Chihuahua mix who  is as adorable on the inside as I am on the outside!  When I first came to the shelter I was a bit nervous, but I’ve been in foster care for a couple of weeks and totally blossomed. I now make friends with everyone including kiddos!   I do AWESOME with other dogs and would love a canine buddy in my next home to play with.  I can’t wait to spend a warm winter in my forever home, are you the place for me?  Fill out the adoption application so we can schedule a meet and greet. I am fixed, vaccinated and microchipped.  My adoption fee is $250, and I am currently living in foster care.
