Policies & Applications

Before Applying to adopt please consider the following:

* Are all household members in agreement about adopting and willing to play an active roll in the adoption process?
* Are your current pets spayed or neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations?
* Have you familiarized yourself with The Pixie Project’s adoption policies and procedures? See Below
* If you are adopting a young kitten: Are you prepared for two? We require people who have no other pets to adopt kittens in pairs so they have a constant play partner. A young kitten who is left alone for hours a day will likely be lonely and bored while you are gone and then extremely needy and hungry for attention when you return.  Adopting a sibling or friend for your kitten will likely reduce this behavior.

* All adoption applications received by the adoption center are forwarded directly to The Pixie Project adoption committee. The adoption center does not review any applications nor is it responsible for any decisions made by the adoption committee.
* We at The Pixie Project try our absolute best to ensure that, for our adoptable pets, their next home is their forever home. We thank you for your time and patience throughout the adoption process.
* Due to our screening preference to meet and counsel potential adopters, we rarely adopt out of our local Portland metro area.

Meeting our adoptable animals:

* Pixie Project Cattery – The majority of the Pixie Project’s adoptable cats live in our free roaming cattery at the Pixie Project main location located at 510 NE MLK BLVD (across the street from the Oregon Convention Center)

* Virginia Woof Dog Daycare East – The Pixie Project is fortunate to share their space with the Virginia Woof Dog Daycare Center where our adoptable dogs are playing in a fun, open daycare environment.  These animals are available for viewing and meeting anytime during our open hours.

* Pixie Project Foster Care – At any time The Pixie Project will have 5-10 animals living in loving foster homes. If there is an animal on the Pixie Project website that is currently in foster care that you are interested in meeting please contact the Pixie Project at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Pixie Project does reserve the right to refuse adoption to any individual without explanation.

Policies for Adopted Animals:

* Animals must be licensed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the adopter resides.
* All dogs and cats will wear identification at all times.
* We do not allow mutilation of animals, including tail docking, ear cropping, or declawing. The Pixie Project will gladly assist and instruct regarding nail trimming and other declawing alternatives.
* If for any reason whatsoever the adopter(s) cannot or will not keep an animal, the animal must be returned to The Pixie Project.
* We require people who have no other pets to adopt kittens in pairs.
