The Pixie Project is a non-profit animal adoption center and rescue located in the heart of Portland, Oregon.

At Pixie, we make animal adoption and rescue a fun, family friendly, and positive experience. Our dedicated staff focuses on finding life-long matches between pet and adopter and takes a hands-on, personal approach to each and every adoption.

Pixie is committed to keeping pets healthy, happy, and in their homes for life. Our on-site clinic offers low-income and homeless pet owners access to vital veterinary care and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, keeping pets out of shelters and saving lives.

Our philosophy at Pixie is simple and unique: find the perfect pet for each person or family. At Pixie we’re not about getting animals out the door, we’re about getting pets into lifetime homes. Sometimes the “right” pet is waiting for you, and other times we may have to search for a while before your canine or feline soul-mate arrives. We promise, it will be worth the wait!

Hello – my name is Nikko, and I’m a man on a mission. I lost my home and family, and have had some tough times … but I am a resilient little guy, and determined to build a new life for myself.
I’m able to adapt quickly to new situations, and will easily fit right into your schedule and life. I am smart and independent, and know how to keep myself busy with my own thoughts and explorations. I am not demanding or needy, but if you’d like to spend some time with me, I will happily make room for you. I don’t have any bad habits, and would never dream of causing you any trouble.
I am calm and gentle, and love everyone around me, including other dogs and cats. I’d like for everyone to be gentle with me, as well, because I’m not good at defending myself. But I’m so good-natured that even if someone insults me, I forgive them instantly, and never hold a grudge.
I have a thick, shiny coat, with a gloroius white mane draping my sturdy little shoulders and gracing my neck and chest. My front legs feature a sprinkling of soft little freckles, and my upper arms sport tan-colored little t-shirt sleeves (I like to keep one rolled up a little higher than the other).
I love getting little massages, especially on my chest and head – I will lean into your fingertips and kiss your forearm to show you how much I appreciate your kindness. I have a subtle little smile, and a wonderful sense of humor that I’ll reveal to you once you get to know me.
I’m about 12 years old, and despite my age, am in very good shape. I’m crazy about going for walks, and keep up a respectable trot the whole time – and all along the way, the tips of my ears bounce up and down, and say “hello” to everything in my path.
I’m sorry to say that I don’t hear as well as I used to, so I won’t always know when you’re approaching, and may get startled. My eyes are a little cloudy, but I can still see well enough to have a normal life. Chain link fences can fool me into thinking they’re not there, and I might stumble over something now and then, but have no trouble otherwise.
I am sweet beyond imagining. I am, in a word, perfect.
The sad truth is that I was recently adopted to a new home, and although the person really loved me a lot (still does!), the dog and cat who already lived there didn’t like me, so I wasn’t able to stay.
But while I was there, all my health care needs were taken care of: I had a very thorough exam with the vet, and got some help with my teeth and an eyelid that kept scratching my eye and making it water. Now I feel much better, and have received a gold star for a sparkling-clean bill of health!
I am currently in foster care, and adoptable through Multnomah County Animal Shelter. Please contact Eva at hello@bigcatdreams.com or at503-788-6988 to learn all about me.
I am ready to meet you, and when I do, I will instantly steal your heart. You will not be able to stop yourself from taking me home with you, and then wonder how you ever lived without me.

Daisy is a world traveling, 6.5 year old, 57 pound Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. She is a Gemini, originally from Western Australia, and has a goofy-sweet personality. Daisy is energetic and needs her exercise. She’s house broken, well-mannered, and obedience trained. Will only get on the furniture if invited and it is covered with a blanket. Appreciates a sweater in cold weather and likes to be covered with a towel. She’s spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.

Favorite activities: Snuggling, playing fetch with a human using a ball flinger, sunbathing (she’s a true blue Aussie), chewing on sticks and antlers, continuing her obsession with squeaky Kong tennis balls, kissing on humans, rolling, riding shotgun, waking up next to a human, long walks on the beach, and swimming
Commands she knows: sit, stay, down, leave it, come, up, off, slow, wait, paw (Aussie version of shake), back up, back seat, let’s cross(the street), gentle and probably many more that I am just not recalling now. She is extremely smart, sensitive, and learns very quickly.

Cats: needs a cat free home (she is a cat chaser)

Dogs: Would be best as an only dog in the home.
As far as dog friends in a social setting, she prefers smaller, polite, gentle dogs with good social skills. She appears to simply enjoy being in the company of other dogs. I have seen her run and lightly play with dogs slightly smaller than her size. I have never seen her play rough or tackle another dog. She seems to enjoy playing fetch with a human much more than playing with other dogs. Daisy needs slow, one-on-one introductions to other dogs, supervised by humans that clearly understand dog behavior, particularly staffy behavior. She gets nervous around dogs that are larger than she is and barking or hyper dogs are overwhelming for her, so keeping her safe from dog parks is best.

Children: I don’t have any experience of Daisy living in a household with kids, but she seems to enjoy respectful children, though sometimes forgets her size and strength. I’d think she’d probably be best with kids maybe age 7 and up.

She is very fearful of thunderstorms and fireworks, so proper care should be taken in providing her a safe area indoors away from these noises.

She is athletic and can be a jumper, so should not be left outdoors. She prefers to be indoors with humans (if she had her choice, all the time) and is very well behaved.

If you are interested in meeting her, contact Jo at

I’m currently living in the Portland area. I can and will make a meet and greet happen if you’d like.

Chloe-pit-bordercollie-pic

Howdy ya’ll. Cowgirl Chloe here.I’m just a shy girl that’s used to quiet places and wide open spaces.  I’m 2 year old 38lb, mixed breed that loves going on walks in the great outdoors. I’m still adapting to this city slicker life.  I do alright around other dogs and am curious about cats but would do best as the only pet in the house and with kids over the age of 10.   Being sensitive and socially unpolished, I’m looking for a dedicated home to help me gain confidence and get used to big city life.  Have a quiet place for me?   Fill out the adoption application so we can schedule a meet and greet.  I am fixed, vaccinated and microchipped.  My adoption fee is $250.

Chloe-pomeranian-1 (1)

Good afternoon, everyone.  I’m Chloe, a sophisticated lady of 12 years.  I’m looking for a blanket in the grass to lie on while I indulge in tea and crumpets, or water and dog biscuits as it were. I love to be held and attended to.  I’ll happy to share my space with other dogs and cats but am a bit delicate and would prefer a home without small children. Do you have a spot in the sunshine for me?    Fill out the adoption application so we can schedule a meet and greet.  I am fixed, vaccinated and microchipped.  My adoption fee is $250.

Rufus-1

Hey guys, I’m Rufus. Sometimes my friends at Pixie call me Rufus the Goofus. I’m a silly, sweet, 2 year old Pit mix. I love going on walks and I have a ton of energy. I’m a country boy that can be quite overwhelmed with the hustle and bustle of city life. I’ll need an EXPERIENCED AND DEDICATED home that can give me the time and energy required for my good intentions to turn into good manners. I’ll be okay in a home with another dog but due to my size, energy and  extreme wiggles, I shouldn’t live with cats or kids under the age of 10.  I come to you fixed, micro chipped and vaccinated  with an adoption fee of $250.  If you think you might have room in your life, home and heart for me Fill out an application today so you can come visit me at the Pixie Project.
