Welcome to the Pixie Project! We are a non-profit animal adoption center and rescue located in the heart of Portland. We are here to make animal adoption and rescue a fun, family friendly and positive experience. The small but dedicated staff here at the Pixie Project are committed to the art of match making between pet and person and take a hands on personal approach to each and every adoption.

We are so committed to helping those great homes in search of the perfect rescue dog that many times our available animals don’t even make it up on the website because as soon as they come in we know just who would love them!

We ask that all those looking for animals honor the process and the that it might take a bit of time to find that perfect animal but it’s well worth it.

PLEASE DON’T BE DISCOURAGED if you don’t see a dog or cat that fits what you hope to find. Just come on down and fill out an application and talk with us today!

Hiiii I’m Doug! The 3 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever. I’m pretty popular around here at the Pixie Project. People love to take me on long walks because I’m so great to be around. An absolute gentleman! I can sit and stay, I don’t push, I don’t pull, just wagging my tail all the time. I’m still a puppy at heart so I’d be best in a home with older children. I’d feel bad if I knocked the little ones over with my tail! I’ve got a lot of energy and I love to play! Take me to the park or on a hike and I’m your friend forever. Christmas is nearly here! I’ve been a real good boy this year so I asked Santa for a new forever home (and cookie off his plate). I hope Santa comes through! Fill out an application at to catch me under the mistletoe. I’m neutered and vaccinated. Adoption fee $250. Happy Howl-idays!

Harper 1

Aloha everybody! I am Harper! A darling 1 1/2 year old Pointer mix (of the muttiest sort, about 50 lbs) and I have just arrived in Portland from beautiful Hawaii! While I am a bit sensitive at first– (I am still adjusting to the weather change) but I warm right up like the sun and am all fun and games once I do. I can sit, lay down, do single and double high fives, and if I get reeallly excited I do a wiggly dance that some here at Pixie like to consider my version of the hula. I am good with other dogs, okay with pooch savvy cats, and great with all people but really best with older children, as I am still a pup and will require puppy classes to get my hula in tip top condition. I come spayed, up to date on all vaccines, and my adoption fee is $250. So what are you waiting for? Just fill out an app at then cruise on down in your holiday best to meet me– I can’t wait!

Miles is a 5-year-old male tabby. He has been vaccinated, fixed, micro-chipped and even has had his teeth cleaned each year.   He’s most charming as a Netflix cat, perfectly suited to sit on his humans while they watch the latest Rom-Com.   He is an indoor cat and prefers being the only one. He’s handsome and charmingly knows this, walking around with the display of his large plume of a tail raised high in the air.  For more information please contact The Pixie Project at

Looking for a cat to train to do tricks? Benazir may be just the girl for you! Benni, as she is affectionately called, is extremely smart, curious, interactive, and very treat motivated. She’s also a bit of a diva, so she would prefer to be the center of your universe– a home with no other pets is ideal. Benni is best suited for a long-term relationship with someone she considers her peer. Benazir is currently in a foster home; please contact her foster mom at 503-789-4561 for more information :)
