The Pixie Project is a non-profit animal adoption center and rescue located in the heart of Portland, Oregon.

At Pixie, we make animal adoption and rescue a fun, family friendly, and positive experience. Our dedicated staff focuses on finding life-long matches between pet and adopter and takes a hands-on, personal approach to each and every adoption.

Pixie is committed to keeping pets healthy, happy, and in their homes for life. Our on-site clinic offers low-income and homeless pet owners access to vital veterinary care and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, keeping pets out of shelters and saving lives.

Our philosophy at Pixie is simple and unique: find the perfect pet for each person or family. At Pixie we’re not about getting animals out the door, we’re about getting pets into lifetime homes. Sometimes the “right” pet is waiting for you, and other times we may have to search for a while before your canine or feline soul-mate arrives. We promise, it will be worth the wait!

hardy pic 1

Want a cuddly companion that can keep away the winter blues?  Pleased to meet you, I’m Hardy! I’m a 2 year old Chihuahua mix that is equal parts entertainer/lap warmer/life coach. You can tell me anything because I give great advice and can keep all of your secrets. Spoiler alert: most of my problem solving involves chasing after it or burying it – very applicable advice for everything from romance to loose tennis balls!  I do wonderfully with other dogs and can live with cats and older kids too. I LOVE my daily walks and can help you make friends with all of your neighbors with my sunny disposition! Do I sound like the dog you have been waiting for?  Fill out the adoption application so we can schedule a meet and greet. I am fixed, vaccinated and microchipped.  My adoption fee is $250.

This is a very special pup for a very special home.  Nils is a 1.5 year French Mastiff, Dogue de Bordeaux in need of a home. He has a huge head and a huge heart! He does great with other dogs and while his size makes him a beast, he has a more gentle play style. He is a ham for attention, loves people and being part of the family. He will require some basic training but he is potty trained. He is curious with kitties, but with a dog-savvy feline friend and consistent training he should do well.  He has been living with a 4 year old child and does well. The main concern for this guy is his back. He had a severe injury when he was younger where he was paralyzed in his rear legs. He recovered but still has residual back pain and rear limb weakness as a result. This will require long-tern management so he can regain some strength and support in the rear end. Assistance with getting him acupuncture and laser therapy will be included with his adoption, but he will also need medication and supplements. He shouldn’t be in a place where he needs to do lots of stairs regularly and some carpeting would be ideal.  He will make a wonderful companion and is a really easy and relaxed boy!  Would  you be his perfect family? Fill out the adoption application so we can schedule a meet and greet.  He is fixed, vaccinated and microchipped.  His adoption fee is $180.  He is currently living in foster care.

Lehua Pix

Did I hear you say you were looking for a quiet and gentle little girl? One who is a bit sensitive but loyal to the core? You should see me! Lehua! I’m a loving and sweet terrier mix who is 3 years old. I’ve had a lot of changes in my life recently, so I’m looking for a patient family that will help me blossom into the perfect companion I know I am! I’m 23 lbs, so a great size for long walks in the neighborhood or curling up on the couch – both things I love to do!   I do great with other dogs and would love to share my life with a doggy sibling! I am happy meeting new people, but since I take a little bit of time to warm up I will do best in a home without kids.  I can’t wait to find the family that is just right for me, are you the ones? Fill out the adoption application so we can schedule a meet and greet.  I am fixed, vaccinated and microchipped. My adoption fee is $250. I am currently living in foster care.

Iris 2

Greetings friends! My name is Iris and I’m a 5 year old Papillon mix that wants to join in on all of your holiday celebrations!  Don’t worry, I have a beautifully colored coat that can go with any party theme.  Plus, at about 6 lbs I don’t get in the way but my sweet nature will delight all of your guests.  I’m a happy girl that gets along with all people and other animals – another reason I make a perfect hostess! When the party is over I will help you clean up the extra food and be a great snuggler when it’s finally bed time.  Since I’m just a little thing I will do best in a home with older kids. Can I finish out 2015 at your house?  Fill out the adoption application so we can schedule a meet and greet.  I am fixed, vaccinated and microchipped. My adoption fee is $250.

Vincent Van Gogh Theo_Front

Greetings fair Americans! Here reside the Van Gogh brothers.  We are a perfect pair for any cat-loving family. We’ve got Vincent, the rowdier, out-spoken, pub crawling kind of gentleman always eager for affection and praise, and on the other hand we have Theo – the quiet entertainer who is charming to those he holds dear, but needs a little extra time to come around. Both of us are about 8 months old and have a history of doing well with other cats.  Do we sound like the pair for you? Stop by the Pixie Project and meet us in person!  We are here for a visit Tues-Fri 11-6 and Sat 11-4.

Tonk 1

Happy Tonksgiving everyone!!!  Haha, makes me chuckle every time!  I bet my goofy personality and silly antics will make you chuckle too! I’m Tonk and I’m a 9 month old Lab mix that is happy and friendly even though I’ve had kind of a rough go.  You see, I got in a car accident that has resulted in me needing one of my front legs amputated, so I’m looking for a family that can help me as I heal and adjust to my new tri-pod status. Don’t worry though! I’ll learn to get around just fine, and I’ll reward you greatly for you care with my abundance of affection and love.   I am great with dogs, and with some training will do well with dog-savvy cats.  Speaking of training, it will be important that I get into puppy classes so I can be the best dog ever!  Do I sound like the perfect companion for your family? Fill out the adoption application so we can schedule a meet and greet. I am fixed, vaccinated and microchipped.  My adoption fee is $250.

Loki 1

Hiya!!  My name is Loki, but before you read too much into that you should know I’m no little villain! In fact, I’m the most lovingest, adorablest, friendliest Chihuahua boy in the WHOLE neighborhood!!  I’m a 1 1/2 years old and 3.7 lbs soaking wet! That makes me one small little dude and very transportable. I would love to accompany you on all of your adventures and make us friends wherever we go.  Since I am a smidge on the small side I’m best in a home with older kids. I’m also good with the kitties (believe it or not, they aren’t too intimidated by me), but need work on my dog skills. I’m still working on my manners in general, so training classes would be ideal with my adoption.  Looking for a friend to nestle up on your pillow?  Email in your adoption application so we can schedule a meet and greet!  I am fixed, vaccinated and microchipped.  My adoption fee is $250.

Hello Friends, my name is Rhett and I have traveled all the way from the small Hawaiian Island of Kaua`i to find my forever home in the Portland area. I’m 25 lbs., 2-3 years old, and a shepherd/whippet (and perhaps some Jack Russell) mix.   I was a former hunting dog, which means before I was picked up at the hunting station and taken to the humane society, I most likely spent my life in a small cage with many other dogs and had sparse meals with little freedom.   Life continued to be difficult at the humane society where I was not allowed into the play yards because I got hops and the people there were afraid I would jump the fences.  So, I lived a very confined life until the folks at Kaua`i Animal Welfare Society brought me into their family and sent me to Portland where I’ve been having the time of my life ever since!  I am staying at DogTribe Doggy Day Care where I play with all sorts of dogs- big and small, young and old- I love them all!  If you have an active lifestyle and would like to have a smart buddy to join you, I’m your boy!  I enjoy jogging, hiking, and exploring the city and beyond.  After a busy day, I’m content curling up and dreaming of the fun I will have the next day.  I am neutered and my vaccinations are up to date.  If you would like to know more about me please call Toni at DogTribe 503-238-0737, or email Dinah at
